Manual or Auto Transfer Case

I am looking at upgrading to a 2005 or 2006 250 with the Powerstroke. I see many have manual transfer cases. I thought all of them were electronic now. Are there any cons against the manual case? Does anyone know if they have the instant lockup that the electronic ones have? If I get a truck with the manual transfer case, can I upgrade it to auto locking hubs with no problem?

I've got an electricly operated transfer case. In cold weather, if I disengage the 4wd at any speed over 40 kph and try to engage it again, I almost have to come to a stop and sometime wait for it to engage. Ford used to use a wiper motor to engage 4wd. I don't know if they still use it but whatever is used I don't find it very reliable. Long story short...I'd go with the manual.

Stay with the manual if you already have it, much more reliable,,maybe not be quite as convientient,,but I find it a very little price to pay to get out and lock the hubs,,and pull the lever,,and know that 4x4 is there. Another plus side of manual system,,is 2 wheel drive low,,,put in low range,,hubs un-locked,,,makes backing up a heavy trailer so much nicer.

Some people only buy the manual 4x4 trucks,,and I am one of them !

I had the manual ones and had very few issues with them. They would get real stiff and I would spray WD40 into them to free them up!!!!! I'm sure that is not the right way to do it, but it worked! I have auto ones now and I love the convience of them but I hope they don't turn into a big PITA.
