Can someone tell me where the Idle air control valve is? 1995 Ranger 4L 4x4 manual trans, manual locking hubs. Would this make a "wooooing" sound if it was going bad.
Thanks for the reply. Well actually the truck starts then stalls in about 5 seconds. It will do this repeatedly. Someone on another board said it may be the Idle air control valve is getting stuck and that a couple of taps on this valve may knock it lose temporarily. The truck used to making a woooooing noise everyonce in a while. I guess a better way to describe it was like a REALLY sick sounding horn. I thought the noise and the sudden problem may be related.
Well I went out checked the resistance across the pins (both ways ) according to the Hayes manual. It is supposed to measure 6 - 10 ohms. It measures 0 ohms. I turn the key on I can feel the solenoid click but I can't see the plunger move. Its only $40 so I think I will take the chance. Hopefully this will sove the problem. I don't have the spare $ to spend at the dealer right now.
If i remember right....i paid like 70 for a ford one at a dealership...nice and shiny too lol. Only shiny thing under the hood...Anyways i replaced it to try and fix the loopey idle...didnt work
I did not understand in your earlier post if it stalled at idle or when you had your foot on the throttle. If you push down on the throttle you are bypassing the IAC and if it stalls then it is not the IAC.
I am still not clear on when it stalls.
It starts then stalls within 2-5 seconds. It doesn't matter if I give it trottle or not. It still stalls. It will start & stall like this all day long. I changed the fuel filter no change. You can hear the fuel pump run but I realize it still may not have enought pressure. It seems to me that it would at least idle if the fuel pressure was low.
It sounds like you have a very large vacuum leak, this is more than likely the sound you are hearing.
It could be a hose off (or hole in one), bad brake booster, EGR valve stuck open or intake manifold gasket.

Thanks for the replies!
So would any of those problems put out an error code that I could read if I had a scanner?
The EGR might give a code but do not waste your money on a scanner.
Just go to: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13
And can you pull all the codes you want.
Unless you buy a hi dollar scanner ($1200.00 or so) the cheap ones for $50.00 are only the same flashing light as your MIL on your dash.
