Cleaning Intercooler Boots

My IC boots are getting pretty oily and I'm gonna clean them next chance I get. When yall clean them are you taking off the big cast aluminum Y that comes out of the turbo and cleaning the boots that go into the intake? Is there anything special that I need to know about taking off that cast piece? also, do most of you take off the coolant overflow bottle to get the intercooler connection on the pass. side? Thanks

Leave to bottle on. Throw thick moving blanket on top of the engine and go to town. I've used break cleaner in the past to clean the boots. Depending on how many miles and the overall condition of the boots, you might consider replacing them with new ones. DPP or dieselsite have them. I replaced all six with a kit from dieselsite.
