I have a tapping noise under load at 1750-1850 rpm. Not cold and not over 180 deg water temp. ('03 F350 V10). It didn't always do this.
It sounds like the startup piston noise, but I've read many posts in here about heat shields making this noise, and am thinking this is what it is. Am I on the right track? If I am, is one more commonly the culprit? I cant see anythig like rust dust or a crack anywhere.
The heatshield noise has a kind of metallic sound to it (well, because it is metal on metal I guess) I took a look at my original exhaust and those heatshields are actually spot welded along with the clamps. Give them a look though because you can never tell.
