I have a 99 w/ 4.2 and tend to be having a hell of a time removing the spare tire and thought id see if you guys had some input. The spare is useless as the truck is sitting on 37's so I figured I would take it off (first time ive ever messed with it since I owned the truck). I stuck the rod into the hole in the back and couldnt catch onto anything so I looked underneath. The "guide tube" for the rod to lower the spare was moved away from the hole in the rear bumper and had a padlock on it. I cut the lock off expecting to be able to move the "guide tube" back into place...Sure enough no luck. So I was wondering if you guys had any idea as to whats up here.
Reason im asking is because its snowing and pretty cold out (not from here) so its a bit too cold for me to go outside and take some time trying to figure this thing out if someone might have a solution.
