carbon canister

the other day on my way home from school I noticed some white steem coming from under the hood near the batery and figured my engine was over heatig for some reason.I quickly turned around and parked my truck safely at home.the following day I replaced he thermostat because I figured that it froze and stuck. The steam returned.I located the sorce of the steam, the carbon canister.I figure that the canister has filled up and I need to purchace a new one.Where can I buy one?My repair manual makes it seem like such an easy job,is it?could this possably be another problem?

The carbon canister is there to hold the gasoline vapors from the gas tank until the engine pulls the vapors back off with the opening of the purge valve up by the intake. This valve is suppose to open when the engine is well above idle rpm and suddenly the throttle plates close. It is to keep the engine running somewhat while you cruise and also to burn the vapor that is captured in the carcoal canister. Now we need to know what year of truck you have so that we can determine what all is hooked to the canister.

Should only be two lines in that canister. One goes up to the throttle plates through a purge valve, and the other goes to the fuel tank. All you can do is make sure the fuel tank vent line is clear. I am not entirely positive on how to do this other than putting light air pressure to the tank to make sure there is a vapor flow from the tank to the canister. I believe the fuel tank vent is on top of the tank and you would have to drop the tank to get to it.
