Electricity will only follow one path to get to ground, the path of least resistance. If you have more than one electrode then the spark will only cross to one of them until it wears out and then swith to another one. Its possible to get longer life, because you have more than one electorde to wear out, but they will all clog with combustion byproducts anyways.
