I believe this to be a 4 speed tranny by shifting through the gears. The N 4 probably should have been a clue as well. Does anyone know if this was a good transmission. It will connect with an eaton 2 spd rear end. I have two of these both say 59T7006 but one does not have the N 4 below it. I think it came out of a smaller truck. The N 4 came out of a 51 flathead 8 F6. The bolt patterns are the same. I want to use it with a 7HA motor which as most of you know is in the machine shop getting bored out. The one without the N 4 had the adaptor plate for the 226 flat 6 cylinder. What are the pros and cons?
Double clutching should not be a problem. I grew up moving my dads semi all over the place. He said he had to do it and so did I. Other than no synchros was it a durable tranny? It looks clean inside with no broken teeth.
It's a great tranny. Bullet proof! You can grind the heck out of it and it will still be ok. It's a pain to shift when you've been spoiled by a synchro tranny. The rule of thumb is ... slow and easy... when shift it. Can't be in a hurry! I learned to double clutch on a 1943 GMC 6x6 with a clark 5 speed! You went slow and easy with that monster!
I will definitely take your advice when I get it on the road. Story has people on vacation now through the end of the year. I have alot of other things I can do so I told him not to get in a hurry on the motor. I just want to have it by the end of March to test out awhile before SuperNationals. My goal is to drive it down.
