Dodge Steering
Dodge Steering
I went to visit my uncle over the weekend and he has a '69 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup. I did not realize that they had a straight axle. Steering box looks similar in size and function to the Ford box. His was not power, but it probably wouldn't be much bigger if it was. Has anyone ever used a Dodge setup to put power steering on a straight axle? I have a Toyota setup on mine, but wonder if this wouldn't be cheaper. Might could use a stock Dodge pitman arm. If anyone has experience with this, I'm just curious.
Dodge Steering
The power steering setup on the Dodge is like the add on type they sell for the F-100. It's just a control valve on the drag link and hydraulic ram that helps work the tie rod. My brother had a '71 that was leaking, so he took it off and replaced the pitman arm and drag link with a standard setup. I have seen pictures in old publications of F-100's using an old Dodge van steering box ( late 60's I think ). Never seen anything written about the installation or advantage of it though.
