My wife pulled out of our 50 degree garage this morning, stopped behind a school bus picking up kids, then when she pushed on the accelerator, there was nothing. It was not a stall or a fuel starvation problem. It would only idle, no response whatsoever from the throttle. It acted as if the harness was disconnected at the pedal, but I checked it. Had it towed to the local dealer, they called me and asked what the symptoms were because it nows runs perfectly fine for them. BTW the truck is a 2004 F-350 6.0 with 58,000 miles on it. Anyone seen or heard of this? Thanks for the great forum.
MIL? Sorry I don't know the abbreviation, but no idiot lights came on if thats what you are asking. All guages were within normal ranges.
Malfunction Indicator Light, Check engine light. If nothing came on then I don't believe it is pedal failure; for the engine to drop to idle would require at least 2 of the 3 redundant pedal rheostats would need to fail and this would kick on the MIL.
Not sure what kind of advice to give on this one without seeing the DTC's. Keep us posted on what the dealer finds.
There is also a "wrench" light that comes on when there are problems with the accelerator pedal. Pedals are not as common to fail on 6.0s as they were with 7.3s, but I have replaced a few, but more often it is a wiring problem.
Thanks for the feedback. No codes or lights are present. If and when it happens again, I will definitely be posting on this great site to either ask more questions or to let the members know what the fix was. Thanks everyone.
On our 04 we had this problem plus didn't run good. They found both wiring harnesses bad. They said the one to the accelerator if you have the adjustable pedals has a problem from the movement of the pedal. So wondering if the placement of the pedal from your wifes size and if they adjusted it to them fixed the problem temporarily until she drives again.
Unfortunately, it does not have the adjustable pedals, even though it is a Lariat model. Also, my wife and myself are both the same height so we leave the seats and the tilt wheel in the same position when driving each others vehicle. Thanks for your thoughts.
