I have a 1976 ford with a four speed manual trans i would like to find a way to put a five speed in does anyone have any sugestions on how to mate my 390 up with a five speed any other options or sugestions would be appreciated
I installed a NV4500 in my 79, all I needed was the gas dodge version and the adapter kit from an adapter company, not sure if FTE wants em advertised. Sold it soon after when I got in a pinch, back to the 4 speed now.
If I were to do it over I'd do the splitter style overdrive unit that mounts in front of the factory trans. Cheaper than a rebuilt NV4500 + adapters ($2k vs. $1400), and all the farm trucks I've driven with splitters sure did utilize the rest of the gears better with heavy loads.
