This is on a manual shift / manual hub 4x4. 2007 with a shade under 3000 miles. When I lock the front hubs, the passenger side hub squeaks. But only when locked in. Even does it when the transfer case is not engaged, but the hubs are locked. Occasionally, when in 2wheel drive and hubs unlocked, it sounds like there is something caught in the brake pads. I haven't had the time to take the wheel off the truck, since I work first light to last light. Have any of you guys experienced anything like this? I would rather not take it back to the dealer since I depend on this vehicle to make a living. Thanks for any insight.
Mine did that when new. (2006 F-250) and after useing the 4X4 some it went away. Just a new thing I think. And I think it will go away. Lock the hubs,,,burn some extra fuel, and break it in some.
So I think I'm having this same issue on my truck. It sounds like it's coming from the right front. Mine is a 2003 f250, v10, cc. It's lifted 6" and has 35's. It kind of sounds like a rubber type of squeak, like two balloons together or something. It's just weird. Does it in drive or just coasting in neutral a little.
I did lock my hubs, then unlock them without moving. That seemed to get rid of it for a couple of miles, then it was back. So I'm guessing it's something like the hub trying to engage or something.
What's this you mention about locking the hubs and driving the truck like that, is that not bad for things? Or what exactly does that do as long as my dash switch is set to 2wd?
It's actually snowing here today, so I can probaby get up in the morning, lock the hubs and run 4hi around here a bit to see if that helps out.
Running with your hubs locked in won't hurt anything, mine are locked in right now, its the beginning of winter and they will stay locked in until spring when the snow is done and gone. Just me but I would rather not have to dig in the snow to engage 4x4 when I go into the ditch (not likely knock on wood) or some other disaster
