so, i went down to advance auto today in search of so new air freshiners and i got sidetracked as usual... anyways i came across universal lifting blocks, they have them in 3 inch and 2 inch blocks that come with the ubolts. so my question is do i need to buy anything else or can i just use blocks. and is it possible to use blocks in the front? i was thinking about going a 3 inch in the back and a 2 inch in the back to level it out. any help would be great
NO!!! Installing lift blocks for the front is not a good idea and creates a safety hazard. The only way to lift the front is with an add-a-leaf, new spring pack, or longer spring hangers. Sorry.
In the rear it is possible to add the lift blocks. However...with universal blocks...you have to make sure the pinion angle is still within acceptable limits.
Many FTE folks will purchase a leveling kit or even 3" spring hanger front lift and get the blocks off an F350 4x4 (same configuration as your SD) to make the lift for the rear. Of course new u-bolts for the rear will be needed. Just a suggestion...
Extremely unsafe for blocks in the front axle. I believe that most of the states lift laws state that clearly also. The biggest reason (according to the way the laws were written) was the flex and wrap on the spring eventually it could cause the block to spit out, which would make a series of control issues.
I have seen it a couple times up on the dunes here in Michigan, it really makes a mess of the truck.
Of course this is not the biggest problem I have with Michigans laws. But that would be a whole other topic and a really long an drawn out post by me. Does it show that I used to own an off road shop? Sorry.
