I'm trying to figure out if the turbos on the '05 and later 6.0's are different or upgraded from the '04 or earlier turbos. I guess what I'm getting at is if I have to go in to get my turbo replaced, is Ford going to replace mine with an updated version, or am I going to get the same problematic turbo? My truck is an '04 F-250. Also, if my turbo went out after the warranty expired, about how much is a turbo replacement. I'm trying to get a figure on what I need to put back for future vehicle Maint. Thanks.
This site is great. It's like an above and beyond shop manual. The info is great, and I'm glad I joined. After Christmas, I'll have to give back a little and become a supporter.
well as far as if you need turbo replacement, for a 04 year you will recieve a new design one. some 05 even have 04 turbos, so it gets kinda confusing. the turbos run around a grand, but you really should not need to replace a turbo. if you have the stock airbox keep it, if not get rid of whatever you have and go back to stock or you will have to replace your DUSTED turbo. now if they start sticking, we can clean them in the field so replacement is not neccessary

Thanks for the info, yeah, I was reading about how they can be cleaned. I saw it on one of the diesel tech. sites. I had the k&n filter on her before I started reading this site. I quickly switched back to stock. This is my first venture with forced induction, and I've got a few things to learn. I guess that mentality was from my gasser days. This site really helps out a bunch though. I ***-u-me-d that an intake kit would be a good improvement from stock, and indeed it was. My boost pressure wasn't running as high, but I understand why, and now my EGT's are back up a little. I only ran it for about a month, and I don't believe it was on there long enough to do any damage. I do have an Edge, but it's only real purpose is to serve as a information station. I've never ran her WOT with any of the settings past 3. That's probably to much stress on the head bolts as it is, but I like it for the gauge display and code reading abilities.
Lol, skycop530, Im not trying to be a smart @$$ but, I am just trying to imagine you telling the service advisor that you like the Edge just for the gauges...just sounds funny, thats all.

Yeah, I imagine it would be sketchy for them to believe it, but with everything I'm hearing about head bolts giving up the ghost after too much pressure, I've turned down the "juice" quite a bit. I'm lucky I don't have to pull it off before I go in, but my dealer is Mod friendly. It would probably give them a good laugh anyway. I've got about 30,000 to go before my warranty expires, after that I figure it will be about time to upgrade the head bolts and gaskets. Maybe then there will be some more goodies on the market that will strengthen the internals of these engines.
i see your in tennesee. everynow and then, set your tune back to stock, and go out and play in the mountains. flooring it will not hurt these babies. but even with your tune, watch your boost and stay under 30.

I let the big dogs eat when I'm in stock tune. I'm usually running behind in the morning, so she gets a good work out (after she warms up.) When I bought this truck a year ago (used '04), I've noticed that some of the bugs she had dissapeared. I don't know if it set so long on the lot that rust built up in the turbo housing, but when I got it sometimes it seemed like the vanes were sticking right before she reached operating temp. It did that a couple of times under throttle, but giving her a leg stretch every now and then, and keeping her PM'd has been an improvement for drivability. And I love the mountains, so I'm up there quite a bit either on the Harley or in the truck.
awesome!! yea the mountains are nice. bet its awesome up there right now.
It was really nice a few weeks ago. All the colors are gone off the trees now and old man winter has finally set in for the season. It's kind of funny here in the winter, we get a mix of butt cold north air then it warms up. It snows some, but it's usually a wet nasty snow. Maybe we'll get a good one this year. The mountains really are nice covered.
