when i start my truck up every 5 tp 10 seconds it has this air purging sound for just a second long. But if I start driving sometimes it will be continous until i let off the accelarator pedel, but while it's making the sound the truck will feel sluggish while hitting the pedal, if i stay on the pedal eventually the sound stops and the truck jumps like it's free, then this will repeat until for awhile, then it's gone til the next time it's cold.
anyone know what this might be ???????
thay my friend is the EBV(exhaust back pressure valve) when it is cold out it will close and hold back pressure in exhaust to help the truck warm up faster
Hey Ron, so that's probably why my truck is having a hard time starting lately. Where is this EBV located ?????
do you think this also decreases fuel milage, cause I'm see a difference.
It sounds like the tube going from the exhaust manafold to the sensor is plugged, the EBPV should let off as soon as you hit the go pedal, mine did this, just disconnet this and clean it out. I'm not sure where the pic of this is, but I have seen it on this site. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in with a pic for you.

I dont think that valve would cause hard starting, you may have a glow plug issue, the way I understood this valve is it dumps boost so your not spinning the turbo up like you normally would when the truck is warm, pls someone correct me if I'm wrong.. Thanks
The EBP Valve closes to increase backpressure when the CAP (Cold Ambient Package) is activated, the PCM Controlls it up to an EOT (Engine Oil Temp) of 131*F. The PCM Uses the EBP Sensor to determine backpressure and decide whether to open the valve or not. So if you are mashing the go pedal and it is not opening check the Sensor and tube for blockage, the soot from the exhaust will clog them. Dumping boost is controlled by the wastegate and is a separate function.
Being so new to PSD's myself, a picture of this thing would certainly be helpful. Even a description of where these things are located would be appreciated. turns out that I had the exact same experience this morning for the first time ever, and it just turns out that this is the coldest day I've experienced with my wonderful, lovely, enrapturing truck (low 20's here in Birmingham).
once I get over the sticker shock of having moved to Brimngham, I'm gonna have to become a SUPPORTER. You guys are really great!
EBP Sensor is on the fron of the motor between the heater core outlet on the water pump and the A/C Compressor the tube runs from just under it to the front of the pass side exhaust manifold.
EBP Solenoid in the turbo pedistal behind the intake Y. the acuating rod sticks out kinda from behind the pedistal to the valve that is located right near where the down pipe connects to the turbo.
The other end of the sensor is a 1" socket drive, and it is located just behind the idler pulley at the top center of the serpentine belt location. This tube can be a PITA to remove, so just disconnect each end and fish a pipe cleaner through it, and then compressed air.
Here is a pic of what the actual exhaust backpressure valve looks like.
That would be if you were to remove the downpipe and look in at the valve.
Go to Section 11: Engine Electrical , go to Main Engine Harness, and then Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor. It shows a diagram of the Sensor and the tube leading from the bottom of it. The other end goes to the Manifold, that Kris had a pic of. Also if you go to wiring harness front view, it shows where it is located on the front of the engine. Hope this helps. This website is pretty good about braking down the engine, and parts location.
