98 Explorer will not move in reverse

98 Explorer will not move in reverse

Just today as I was backing out of my driveway I heard a loud bang noise as I was reversing out, and my truck just reved up and didn't move. Can anybody please give me an answer to what it might be? I can still drive forward but it will not move in reverse.

Broken band or cluster gear set in the tranny; hope not, but it's probably serious.

Impossible to say; if you know of a reputable tranny shop that will diagnose your problem for a set amount of $$$, that's your best bet. Some of them offer free towing and a decent warranty.
