Now What?!

I just changed the fuel bowl water drain. On friday I started the truck and it started spraying fuel on the ground. The leaking seems to has stopped. I also replaced the fuel filter while I was at it. So I decided to take it for a drive and after about a mile it started sounding like a big cummins and then it kept getting louder. I pulled into a parking lot and the truck wouldn't go any more. It started knocking or pinging real bad so I shut it off. I called up a friend and we put some anti-gel in and about 4 gallons of gas. Still won't start. Battery ended up dying and I had to tow it home. Could this just be the fuel is so geled up that it won't run? If so how do I fix it. I have a block warmer, will that warm the fuel too? What other problem might I have created?

I would not put gas in a diesel. You could really mess it up....LOL..
Did u use like anti gel additive you add when you fill up normally or did you add diesel 911? You may also want to try to change the fuel filter again.

Sounds like what I had. couse I dotn know Sh*& about this stuff cause I am a new Diesel owner, last sunday it took all day to get the beast running wtih Loud knocking like a metal hammer on Metal. once it warmed up and idling it was fine. but once I added the go pedal it really didnt change much. I tought it was fuel filter so I changed it ($40 dam) anyway now its new. but I could floor the truck it only make 20 mph. so I milked it to the shop and called them Monday morning. what told me about my commander (Quadzilla and module) was sending codes and Bad injectors. 2 and 6 I believe and those are spendy $250 a piece. oh the joy. so hopefully tomorrow I will have a running truck. adn I am taking my chip out. not sure if the commander is throwing codes or not, but well see.
Good luck

open the drain valve and turn the key on (dont crank) there should be a strong stream of diesel comming out of the drain tube.

With the recent work on the drain valve makes me want to check the Tin Nut on the IPR (dont ask took half a days trouble shooting for a 3 second fix) and make sure it is tight.

Its a 2001 F250. I put some additive in it after it died. It hasn't gotten that cold around here until last thursday when I didn't drive my truck. Since then it hasn't gotten above 20F. So there wasn't any additive in it. I will have to try the opening of the drain valve and turning the key. After not starting I opened the drain plug and some fuel did come out but it didn't seem like as much as the first time I did it.
What is the Tin Nut on the IPR?

I don't think you're gelled at 20*. But it does sound like you ran out of fuel for some reason. Does the fuel bowl fill with teh key on, and can you hear the fuel pump running?

Just inboard of where the drain valve is below the little electrical connector is a gold looking rod that is held to the IPR with a rather cheap looking nut(Tin Nut). That nut holds the solenoid to the IPR if it is loose it can cause fluctuating HPOP pressure or no pressure at all.

water precipitated OUT of the fuel does freeze that cold however. get it somewhere warm, and perhaps some fuel dry additive it you get fuel after the truck defrosts.

I'm thinking you might have a cracked fuel filter housing.

EDIT: Never mind, I mis-read your opening post.

Are you 100% certain that you closed the drain valve completely?

Also, if you update your profile and add a signature with your truck details, it'll help us when where you are and what you have. Click on "User CP" on the blue bar near the top of the screen to get to where you can update them.

How are things working now? Still an issue or did you get it sorted?

It has gotten as cold as 5F and below 0F windshield a few nights. I don't have much fuel in the tank right now either.
No fuel is leaking anymore.
Amiller, I will have to check on that.

I charged the batteries all night and then I pluged in the truck about 2hrs before I tried it. At first it didn't sound good at all. It ran real rough. Turned it off then I turned the key forward and went and opened the drain valve and fuel was spraying out. So I gave it another try and fired up and idled kind of crappy at first then when it started warming up it got better and better. Drove it about 10 miles to work with no problems at all.
Thanks for the comments guy, keep up the good work.
