I have a 2007 F-350 with the 6 speed transmission. I have a few questions about the high idle mod.
1) Does my truck already come with it? I've noticed with it cold and idling, after a while the idle will kick up a little until I push the brake on to put it in gear.
2) Can I put a high idle mod in mine since it is a manual?
Forgive me if I speak out of turn (or am incorrect). My 2003 raises RPM a few hundred RPM after a few minutes of idle. This stops when I hit the brake pedal. It is NOT the same as powering in the upfitter (or other) switch to trigger the built in up-idle for PTO.
I haven't wired mine for that yet, but is on my list of logevity mods (mine has been at the dealer for a week for a sticky VGT turbo).
I don't know anything about the PTO (or other similar mod) on teh manuals, as I have an Auto, and only read those portions. I believe they are in the tech folders for the 6.0.
Hope I was some help, I'm still kinda new to these trucks, only had my '03 3 wks, 1.5 of which have been in the shop to address my concern of a sticky turbo before it gets ugly.
With the parking brake applied(6spd's) high idle will kick in after a few mins of idle. You can get a flip chip with the high idle setting on it so you can choose high idle at your convenience. High idle is used to help warm the engine quicker and prevent wet stacking, PTO attachments and hydralic systems that run off your battery(high idle will keep your batteries charged while operating the system). Nice rig btw...sexie
My truck is an 06. There is one of the wires that I could not get to work the high idle. The other wire works fine. Brings the RPM up to 1200 on the tach. I wired into Aux 4 on the upfitter.
i have an '05 6spd. i used the purple wire with green tracer to connect to the upfitter switch. works like a charm. as stated before you can just leave the upfitter switch on, then after a few seconds with the parking brake on, truck out gear, and foot off of clutch, the high idle will automatically kick in. helps warm the truck up faster and prevent the wet stacking. if you need more specific instructions, let me know.
I know this is probably pretty newbie stuff, but this is my first diesel and Im still learning the ropes. I know where the upfitter switch wiring is, it's behind the fuse box, but where is that other wire? And I just connect the two using a butt connector?
Also, I wanna run this like in the mornings for a few minutes to let it warm up before I go anywhere? I have already got it plugged in at night.
Wet stacking is when stuff gets caked up on the valves, and they cannot seat right? And the high idle will prevent that?
Thanks again for all of your help! Maybe one of these days I will get all of this stuff down!
