If you want to be totally save just dip them into some diesel fuel.
I just used be a little bit of moly grease myself, did not seem to hurt it any and it keeps the O-rings from seizing up too soon. If the o-rings seize and you disturb the caps you you usually develop a leak path. That is why it is always best not to disturb old lines as simply moving them around cause the leaks to form.
I have used moly engine assembly lube, motor oil, moly grease and silicone oil.
I think I liked the assembly lube and silicone best, they seemed slicker so the caps slid on easier.
A little white lithium grease works well. Others have recommended using Molybdemum 55 I think it was. Supposed to swell the o-rings a little an help keep them pliable
