Heater issues

Hi, I'm new to the site, hope you guys can help me on this? I have a 1993 F-150, 302, Auto, 4X4, 188k miles. This past weekend my temp gage has been moving continuously from cold position to half way up the gage range. The odd thing is when its at the cold position, it's blowing hot air. But at the half way position, it's blowing cold air. I've checked my coolant level, that's okay. Any ideas? I'm in Utah and we're hovering freezing temps. Thanks for any suggestions.
