hi all i am new here.
i have a problem with my 2001 e350 powerstroke v8 deisel 7.3 liter van.
it seems when i start it up it is shaking the engine and when i accelarate it will only go up to 20 to 25 miles per hour and it is bucking the whole time, then it really starts to shake and the speedometer goes down to zero and then shuts down i changed the fuel filter on top of the engine and it didnt help P.S. it sounds load i can here the pistons so i think its the pistons i hear. can someone help me please thank you
I'm not a diesel guy but from what i have learned here sounds like the CPS (cam position sensor) common on the 7.3l...stand by and one our diesel guys will either confirm or enlighten us on the problem you are having.
Very well may be the CPS (cam position sensor). When it goes, the engine can run erratically and/or stall. It usually gets worse as time goes by. Mine went and the truck started stalling. Get the part at an International dealer, and make sure to specify year, make and model. Ford Dealers typically get $185 for the part, while International gets around $100. I believe the sensor is located at the 10 'o clock position on the crankshaft pulley. Anybody feel free to chime in if I am mistaken. Hope this helps!!
wow i want to thank everyone i went an got the CPS from auto zone for 149.00 an thank god that was the problem i needed it for work i already lost a day you guys are great. Thank You
You should of went to an International dealer and got it for $100 like DD1684 said. Its also a good idea to get an extra one and throw it in your glove box. So next time your in the middle of traffic or up in the mountains and it goes out, you have a spare.

I have a 99 F-350 S/D, has new batteries and when I go to start it, it acts like the batteries are dead.. Already tried jumper cables from the battery ground to the starter, did the same thing, any thing else I can try. All help is appreciated.

Good to know you got your problem fixed, but next time buy it from EBay for $50, don't waste money on CPS at dealership. Just get one spare and save it in glove box. FYI, Every one here who owns 7.3 carry a extra CPS.<O</O
Well taejoe, its a shot in the dark, but when these powerstrokes get low on oil the injectors won't fire right, so check your oil level and make sure its full. Hey Vijay, are the CPS's any good off of EBAY? Anybody have any problems with them?
If not, thats a smokin deal!
