I have a set of 30-9.50 - R15 tires on ugly black spoke rims and would like to run them on my 59. The tires are a good sturdy truck tire with heavy sidewalls and a aggressive tread. I would like to use a steel disk wheel that is as close to stock as I can come and stock hub caps.
First, am I right in thinking that the tires are too wide for the stock 5.5 inch wide rim?
Second, is there a steel rim that would work and hold a stock hubcap?
You should have a wheel with a minimum width of 7 inches for those tires and 8 inches would be preferable. You might try www.Petepaulsen.com for his Gennie wheels which are available with the 5x4.5, 5 on 4.75, or 5 on 5.5 pattern and they accept stock hubcaps. The 30x9:50s should work fine on the rear but I would not use them on the front unless you have PS or Popeye arms...
