on our 3 acres, most of the trucks are 48-66. Favorites are the 53-56 and alot of the 61-66 variey. Ask any of my friends, there is plenty of fertilizer flung around here.

Hi all,

I'm slowly working on a 57 F100. I have only found one Mustang II conversion for the 57 - 60. Fortunately I believe it is a quality piece and plan to use it. Fat Man Fabrications is the vendor. They will send you a free literature package on it if you wish and also a catalog. The catalog has a lot of useful information. I have not seen a article on swapping the Mustang II in the 57 - 60 Fords. If you do this I, and I'm sure a lot of others, would appreciate photos. You might even want to write a tech article for this forum. Good advice on the disc brakes Bigger Is Better. On the coil spring use a threaded rod to set your ride height and after the truck is fully assembled have the front weighed. With the weight you can got to a spring company and get exactly what you need. They can tell you what lb spring you need. You might get lucky and find that one of the stock Mustang II springs would work. A y-block is a heavy engine comparable to a 390/428. Using the 351 will save weight. The Mustang II was front heavy so there will be a reasonable chance that you can find some stock springs that will work. I plan to use a Master cylinder off a 66 Mustang that was non power disc brakes. I'm trying to keep under my hood as original as possible and thought that a big booster would not look right.

I've done so much to the '59 (and my '70 F100) without pictures of docunetation that it's no doubt time I did it right, and recorded this suspension mod.

I'll let everyone know when I start "ripping" things apart. It won't be until I can get my buddy's 1950 tudor out of the garage. That's proving to be more or a problem than I first thought.

I keep getting sidetracked with other people's problems; right now I have a 1989 Taurus wagon and a 1997 Taurus sedan waiting on me. The '89 dropped a valve in the no. 1 cylinder (needs a sleeve, piston, head work etc. or a good used engine). The '97 has the "service engine soon" light on. I cleared the error codes and drove it about 15 miles at 55mph on the highway. It ran great (plenty of power) until I turned around and hit passing gear to accelerate onto the interstate. The light came on as soon as it shifted down into low range, and the power went away. PLEASE DON'T RESPOND TO THESE TAURUS PROBLEMS -- I'M ONLY MAKING CONVERSATION!! The point of all this is that it will be some time before I get to the '59 F100 again.

But I will keep records and pictures of the project.

Several years ago I installed Must II susp in my '57 short styleside. I used a Fatman's kit and it worked great. Get one of their catalogs, order what you need, and follow the instructions. They also have good tech guys if you have problems. I upgraded to Granada rotors and mid-size GM calipers. Drives and handles great. If I remember right I used '78 Must II V-8 springs. I'm running a small block Chevy and TH 350 tranny. I should add you need to do quite a lot of welding with this kit.

Moneypit,

Did you remove the front crossmember? The instructions says it has to go and then they recommend welding a temp brace to retain spacing and squareness. I've looked and measured and it appears that I can leave it on my frame. It sets about 20" in front of where the new crossmember will go and that allows plenty of space for frame boxing. I intend to keep the oem crossmember as the 312 uses it for the front motor mount. Was your truck originally a V8 or 6? How much did it lower your front? Did you by any chance take any photos?????

I would like to see a picture of your truck if possible.

use the aftermarket setup. to get around the 4" problem use 74-80 t-bird tie rod ends. this will make up the diference. Try Jim Wymers Rod Garage. I visited his place last summer and he has kits for about everything.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Feb-02 AT 07:39 PM (EST)]So if you use the 74 - 80 T-Bird tie rod ends you don't have to use the rack extender? Is that right? Do you have to use inner and outer or what?
