I'm having the carb rebuilt for my '53 w/ 215 I-6. I'm considering putting an offenhauser dual intake on it, since the PO gave me a spare glass bowl 1bbl carb. 2 is cooler than 1, right? Also considering a header. Anyone here have experience with these mods? Advice/suggestions?
Caveat: no "a SBC would be easier, cheaper and more HP" ... I'm looking for more of a traditional and/or unique set-up
Glad to hear someone else is keeping the "oldskool" 215. I'm going back pretty stock, but going to raise compression some, and looking into maybe grinding a little more aggressive cam profile. I've done some googling, but haven't found any Offy parts for this engine. I have seen suggested that Y-block parts such as valve covers may cross over to some extent. Obviously manifolds aren't gonna work. I was thinking about gutting the oil breather air filter and making it internally a paper filter. Stock on the outside, paper on the inside. Lame for my idea of trick, but an idea. In my brief experience, you can find lots of parts for the later I-6's, but not this first gen....
You gotta post pics...that's gonna be way cool. Anybody can stick a small block chevy or stuff a blower under the hood. Three 1bbl. carbs on a I-6 is something different!
Yes, the link I provided is for the '52-'53 model. It's listed as for a 223, even though the 223 wasn't available until '54. The manifold itself is the same for the 215 & 223. I think the difference is the linkage.
The photo is from the '57-'59 223 manifold, but the '52-'53 one will look the same.

Perfect! Thanks. I guess the welder will have to wait.
Exeter Auto Supply http://www*****terautosupply.com/ has the dual 1bbl manifold for $220 PN 1082. They are also a HAMB Alliance Member, for those that know what that means.
Now I just need to round up another 1bbl w/ glass carb. I'm watching a couple on uPay right now...
I was assuming the pic they had on the Summit site is an error and is just the linkage and went on top of the manifold. But seeing the manifold pic, I guess I'm wrong. What does that that thing fit?

Perhaps Summit can elaborate on that if someone contacts them. Maybe they could also be asked if they carry the same manifold as Exeter. Possibly attach a pic in the email to them...
