Differential Question :)

I have a 91 2wd 5spd Ranger Are the rear ends in these trucks the 7.5" units??? What gears come stock with rangers? and whare are optional. I was looking to at trying to pick up a limited slip unit to throw in the truck (dont care if it's used as long as it works it's the winter truck) for better winter driving. I know I have rear ABS. I see ebay has a few used and new limited slip units available. What specific one am I looking for Thanks

Matt

What engine does it have, if it's a 4.0, it should have an 8.8, gears could range from 3:08's to 4:10's. The stock ford lsd is a trac-loc, the best is a detroit tru-trac. The stock ford lsd is better than nothing, but not by much.

More than likely, it's a 7.5 3.45 ratio. Find a 8.8 locker 3.55 ratio and it will bolt right in place. You will have to change the speedo gear a tooth or two, but it should be fairly close.

how will an 8.8 carrier unit fit into the 7.5.??? I'd likely not want to set up a new pinion and gear set anyways...

I believe he ment to swap the whole rear end, take out the 7.5 and replace it with the 8.8.

gotcha I was like 8.8 > 7.5. I'd rather just swap in a T_lok or something and call it good.

Sorry, I did mean swap the whole rear end. I did check into a lock, but I could get a whole 8.8 rear end used for the same money.

Ended up picking up just a standard Ford Limited Slip unit off ebay for agood price. I havent yet opened the differential cover on my ranger, but how is the rear ABS setup on these trucks? It stated that the carrier would work with rearends with or without ABS. do they have a reluctor on the pinion for the ABS, or is it something else???

Is there a difference between the open differential crosspin and the limited slip carrier crosspin? Thanks.
