power steering pump noise/conversion
I installed a 78-79 box,used a steering pump from a 79 broncoo 4wd (and hoses),I rebuilt the pump before I installed it so I don't understand why it's so loud.
I have heard other ford cars and trucks make this nosie before,so maybe it's just a ford thing but it sounds like poop!!
If anyone has any reasons why this is or has another pump recomendtion,I would like to here from you

Did you mess with the slipper vanes at all, and if so are they installed correctly?
Did you pre-lube the vanes or crank it up dry on the 1st start up?
Is your pump rated for ATF but it has Power Steering Fluid in it?
these are the most common casues for what I presume we are talking about. . . .

i lubed all partss as i put it back together, and filled the pump before start up.
i did put power steering fuild in it but don't know if it should have atf instead.there was no sticker saying so and it had steering fuild in it when i got it
owned it. Use it as a core exchange on a rebuilt from your local parts store (could be as bad) or if you feel lucky get another pump from your local Pick-N-Pull and rebuild it.
After converting from a Bendix to Saginaw box and resealing the old pump I got curious and collected 5 spare pumps, two from bendix trucks and three from Saginaw trucks. All six pumps had the same pressure relief spring tension, flow control pins and internal parts, this is on the small filler tube can type Thompson pumps. Same with friends with their trucks with Thompson pumps.
