Important Oil Cooler Information

I had to pull my oil cooler and replace the cracked/hard o-rings, while I had it out I noticed that only about two of my cooling tubes were barely open. So i took a 3mm rod and hammered it through each cooling tube. I now have 25 or 27 open cooling tubes. They were stopped up pretty badly. Now I have it back together and my temp. hand is riding down on the N of Normal and my heater gets hotter than it did previously.
Its 20 yrs old and Im sure this is the first time it has been cleaned. This is a great reason to keep your coolant system serviced, I am noticing this trucks cooling system was abused. The radiator looks like it needs to be rodded as well.

I would seriously worry about the hammering of a 3MM rod through the cooler. It is spiraled from front to back and any info I've read states it cannot be cleaned by this proceedure.......so, I will call BS.

I would seriously check my oil for coolant and vice versa..........

When I had mine apart, I rinsed it with gasoline after it soaked for a while.
Then I blew it out with compressed air.

I could see light through the tubes, but not sure if it was direct or reflected light.

I inspected the holes after I cleaned them and I did notice a very small rifling look to them but it wasnt anything big. I will keep a check on my coolant and my oil, but I didnt have any issues doing this at all. I did get some nasty slugs out of each tube, looked like mud.
Dont know why you would call BS on this, I done this today but I didnt have a clue about any spiral cores. They looked good when I shined the light through the holes.
