Hypoid, Bear 45/70, Seetwisted, NumberDummy,
Thanks for your input on my overheat problem. You had good advice or made me think about what I was doing. This morning I let my car ( 1957 Fairlane ) idle for 30 minutes and it stayed at 180-185 degees without any movement on the guage.
1. I already had installed a four row radiator.
2. I removed the fan shroud. ( fan was sitting too far inside shroud to do any good)
3. I installed a 180 degree thermostat. ( was 160 degree )
4. I moved fan to within 3/4 inch of the radiator. ( was 1 1/2 inches )
5. I removed noisey six blade extra cooling fan and installed a stock 1957 four blade fan. ( tips are suppose to be bent toward radiator )
6. I replaced the 7 inch water pump pulley with a 6 inch. ( gives it 15% more fan rpm at idle )
Thanks again.
Jim
