Thanks for the info , I had almost gave up but I went back took the trans off again with my floor jack and rolled it back from the motor and looked real close at the shaft. do not know what I did different but this time I put a bolt in each side of the trans and shook it a few times and it went all the way in.hope thats over.
Ok-cohammer says 302 comes out and a 300 six goes in and inquires about flywheel.
-clunker comes to his aid and is referring to a 390 in his reply.
-I am confused!
Also I was glad to see pud and 82f100swb jump in there and even suggest the IDI Diesel forum. If the fella who posted about the diesel sawp goes there, I believe he will find the answers he seeks.
i was ref to the in line six. i dont remember what number that is i think now it might be the 300 but not sure. but i do know the inline 6 302 and 351w all used the same tranny just the fly wheels are balanced different

I can tell you that after extreme motify to the motor mounts and moving the trans back 3" and changing the raidator , all the hoses , alt, and alot of the wiring was different going from a 82 to the 79 , I do not know if I will ever change motor sizes again. but without clunker help I would have given up because thats the only way I knew I had the wrong fly.
dude i tell you i said the same thing 2.5 years ago. i had a 81 f250 with a351m 2wd c6. i bought i 86 f250 that had a 6.9 diesel in it. i bought just the truck without engine or tranny for 4oo. i got it to a spot, and i took my engine out the 81 and went to put it in the 86 and found out there was going to be a long road ahead. at that time i know very little in what i was doing. i was pissed because i thought it would only take a day no more then two. after two days i had the law telling me i couldnt be doing this here, so i had my 86 towed to base and did it at a hobby shope for 2.50 an hour and a dollar a day for storage. i learned then i had to go to the junk yard and cut me some engine brackets so i could set the engine in the truck, then i had to relocate the oil filter, and then had a bounch of wiring to do. it stayed at the hobby shop a little over a month maybe two. but i got it after a lot of time and under estimating what i was going to have to do.
but im glad to see its going good for you now, just think you know more now then you did when you started.
that is the great thing about doing the work yourself you might learn the hard way but the main thing is only learn it one time. does any one have any body work tips? I have sanded the whole truck down and done some light body work but how much primer coats are enough before a good paint job can be done?
on primer i would think the more the marrier but i always go on with thin layers. i would put at least 4 layers min on. i also wipe it down inbetween layers with a very very fine sand paper. this helps remove over spray and gives you a smoth surface. but ask around. that is how i do it and seems to come out nice.
cohammer, check out this form. i think you will get a lot of tips and help here. just found it and been reading through. all looks good https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum67/
need help on swaping 1994 302 efi to 1980f-250 full size tool turck
I hope you have all of the wiring harness, computer, and related stuff. Even if you have it all, it still sounds like an awful lot of work. Can you eliminate the EFI? Seems like that and the ignition stuff could make the job a lot easier.
Yes I have all of the wiring harness, computer, and related stuff. Engine is still in F-150 that body was crushed in Katrina but not flooded. Will the engine match perches, motor mounts and transmission to the body of the F-250 utility truck? Truck weighs 7500 pounds with tools. Will it be adequate power? Thank you.
i wouldnt put no 302 in a f250 work truck like that. a 302 is a good engine in light cars and small trucks, but in that big f250 work truck it would kill that engine. you wouldnt have much power and if anything i would assume you would have that engine to its max with just the truck. i would put a 351m in there. i heared a lot of strong stories about the in line 6. but i think the 302 is just crazy imo.
