I have taken the engine apart out of my truck and found out that I need a new cam and lifters. It is a 302 and would like suggestions on a new cam to put in. I would like a little more power and torque out of it. But I would like it to be kinda cheap like less than $150.00.
here a good cheap kit, do it right the first time
get the block checked..bore it if it needs it and have cam bearings installed
get the heads rebuilt....guides, springs etc.
get the crank checked and resized if needed
once you know what size pistons and bearings you need
order somthing like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/289-3...56435741QQrdZ1
One more thing why do you need new cam and lifters?
if the main jurnals on the cam are worn you will need bearings as well, not the easiest thing to do with the engine in the truck
Does this have something to do with your oil pressure problem?
Thanks, I forgot to mention that it has EFI and is an 86. The engine is allready out of the truck. I decided to get a new cam and lifters because the bottom of the lifters are worn and I wanted to upgrade it a little. Summit racing has the Crane energizer cam and lifter kits for $119.95. I need to know what will work with my stock fuel injection system. I just use the truck for going to school and work. I don't need outrageous power increases or anything like that. The one I was looking at has 204/204 duration and .456"/.456" lift. The engine has never run more than 3500 rpm. Will that cam work with my stock EFI setup.

I'd be almost willing to bet that Energizer will not work with your EFI. Call Crane and ask em. The lift, duration and LCA are all different than the cam you're replacing. You have Speed Density EFI, there's not a lot of room for change with it. Comp Cams has one that will work with SD EFI, the part number is 31-255-5, grind # is XE250H-14.

I have a new marine 302 that keeps sinning rod brg's. Changed it out for a windsor. Marine (RVcam) and lifters have les than 10 h0urs on them. If interested PM me.
hate to barge in on a thread but is there any cam that will work for SD that has a lopey idle? i dont use this truck (88 150 ,302 ,aod) to pull and looking for sound and midrange to top end power, thanks
lopey doesnt make power especially for efi motors. call comp cams, tell them your running speed density and where you want you power range. I will say that if you push it to hi in the rpm range you will have nothing from a stop light. with a truck you cant think mustang, its just the wrong power needs. with a hi rpm cam you would need to install a hi stall converter and probably lower gears in the back to make up for it.
