Just got word from my mechanic that one of my plugs basically disintegrated and pieces of it wound up in the cylinder. I bought the truck back in April, and the previous owner replaced the plugs shortly before selling. Right now I have two questions:
How in the blazes does a plug fall apart?
What engines can I go with that would not require any significant alterations?
It's a '92 with 302 and E4OD.
Any advice and/or similar horror stories would be greatly appreciated.
if the po put in the wrong plugs that were to long can cause this. the easiest of course would be to have that motor rebuilt. next would be to locate a new 5.0 long block and install your intake and other parts onto that motor and install. third would require only a few changes and that would be droping a 5.8 in there. all options will cost you the third may be a bit less even if done right.
I'm swapping a 5.0 out 4 a 5.8L, i've got the pcm for the 5.8L/w a E4od! so if u go for that option u'll need a pcm 4 a 5.8/w an E40D, every thing esle u should already have!
I just finished putting a new 302 into my 92 F150 using a Gopher Engines long block. the website is www.gopherengines.com. I have done some motor swaps for people using these long blocks and am thuroughly impressed with the quality and the price. You can get them at your local UAP NAPA store. My truck runs better than ever now.
