I noticed that lately at high RPM's the fuel filter light on my dash comes on and then goes off when i let off the gas. How does the sensor for this work and what makes the light come on? I bought the truck about a year ago (15000 miles ago) and I am not sure when it was changed last. I read an article on how to change it, and it said that you open a valve on the filter housing to let the fuel out? Is there a water separator that I also have to drain? Would a bad fuel filter give me worse gas mileage / power loss / hard starting?
1. water in fuel also has a light on the dash.
2. fuel filter lite has a light on the dash.
for a #1 problem open yellow lever on passenger side of fuel filter. dont do it on your driveway big mess. if it wont drain due to the vacuum either bump the truck over with the key but dont let it start or crack open the fuel filter lid.
for a #2 problem install new filter/ clean the sensor on the fuel pressure regulator.
