I had a peramedic truck hit my mirror on my 2000 excurtion 7.3 of course..
The ford dealer replaced my passanger side mirror with the newer style, folds both ways type, Now I'm fighting them to put the stock 2000 type back on my truck but they say it is discontinued and thay can't get it anymore. If you've ever pulled a teailer and had to use one of these new style mirrors to back up with you'd know why I want the 2000 style. My ? is, does anyone know how or where I can get a new 2000 style heated power mirror for a 2000 excurtion, the extendable big mirror?
p.s. the peramedic truck was not on an emergency call when he hit me, he was on his way to the donut shop. ha.
I'm confused on why you don't like the one that goes both ways? I have a non telescoping heated one on my passenger side that I am going to replace with a telecoping one. I'm not sure if it only goes one way, but I'll sell it if I replace it.
If you've ever pulled a trailer and had to use one of these new style mirrors to back up with you'd know why I want the 2000 style.
I don't... What do you mean "new style"? There are two types of mirrors.
The Aero-mirrors shown here
or the towing mirrors show here.
Early 99 and 2000's had the towing mirrors that were not extendable and only folded in. 2001 brought about the change to extendable mirrors which fold forwards and backwards but no major changes where made to actual viewing surface itself. (One change was the adjustability of the lower convex mirror but I cannot remember the year of the change/) So why would it be any different?
Is it because the fixed mirror stuck out further than the extendable mirror does in its full retracted position?
Aloha Monsta, Yea there is a new upgrade of mirror for the super, and excursion tow- mirror, The 2000 style only fold in twards the door, The new and improved "Ha Ha" folds both ways forward and backwards. They think this will stop the breaking problem when these big rigs deside to reach out and touch someone. ha.. One bad thing for me is that when pulling a trailer; these mirrors angle back to far, thus making your view un--true.almost impossible to use for backing up.
Yea monsta, I also own a trucking company, so driving is a little hobby of mine. And yea the angle on the new "upgrade" mirror is enough to make you crazy if you do a lot of backing. I use my Excursion to pull a 27 foot travel trailer for our vacations throughout the year. I have the stock mirror on the drivers side and the upgrade on the passanger side, and wow, what a differance in views. A dangerous differance when you want to change lanes with a trailer behind you.
Its not a fish eye mirror, its a true view mirror, but the angle is way off, and without an adjustment to correct it. and when you pull it out to tow a trailer; it gets even worse. check one out next time your around an 02-05 model. I think that that is the year that the guy at ford told me that they changed the style. Its easy to spot them by there big knuckel for the pivit points.

Those are the mirrors I have on my 05. I've yet to experience problems backing my trailer or seeing what is behind me. Bu tthen again, I don't have the older ones to compare it to. My 2000 Excursion had the Aero-mirrors.
I'm curious, though. Are you telling me that you cannot adjust the true view mirror enough to give you the view you want? The range of adjustment on mine far exceed what I would ever use.
When you order a OEM replacement mirror from FORD, does it come as a complete assembly? Or do you have to buy the glass and cap separate from the housing and install the glass and cap?
The reason I am asking..... the various FORD parts web sites show 3 components to the replacement mirrors..... 1) assembly, 2) glass, and 3) cap.
Or....... is #2 and #3 included and already assembled IF and when you purchase #1?
I have the large mirrors on my '01 and am very happy with them..They do a better job than the ones on my '98 Suburban, especially having the little mirrors on the bottom.. I do wish that they had the turn signals and the chromatic darkening.. I don't know why they didn't put the chromatic on the sideview mirrors and did put it on the inside mirror.. Another smart idea from Ford again as the rear window is tinted and I don't see any difference at nite..Whether the mirror is on or off...I have a friend with the smaller mirrors on his super duty and they do show a smaller field of vision..
I have been thinking about taking the Euro mirrors (beagle ears) off of my new school bus and putting them on the "X" and then I could see everything I ever wanted to see while driving down the road.. (joke)
My Ex has the 2005 mirrors, which I think are great. I cannot compare to earlier mirrors.
One great upgrade for this towing mirrors (and has been metioned on this site numerous times) are the C Betr spot mirrors that mount in between the posts on the towing mirrors.
I still can't figure what the problem is. I had a 2001 SD with the mirrors that only pivoted rearward. I broke the drivers side one and replaced it with the newer type that pivots both ways with the different pivot knuckle and there was no noticeable difference when pulling my 35' travel trailer or my boat. The only difference in the angle of sweep is a left hand, right hand side difference that is this way with both type of mirrors.
I must have got a jacked up mirror, It sure sounds like it should work beautifuly according to all of you guys.. I know that the angel is way off compaired to my stock 2000 tow mirror, sets me off when I want to back up or change lanes. I think I found a new set on e-bay for a 2000, I'll give that a try....... thanks all of your feedback....
