door jam switch question

hello, my passenger side door jam switch was broke and dome light removed after i got my truck back from the body man. so i ordered a new switch from LMC and got it in today, and it dont look the same as my drivers side. i did searches all over the internet, and they all show the one i ordered will work for my truck. am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so how did you mount the switch and wire it? thanks

yes 1987 f150.....to try and clarify (if this does) my passenger door jam switch has a green wire running to a little housing, and theres a bent spring coming out of it.....the switch i ordered has a little push button and what looks like a female electrical connection on the other end with 4 holes....the LMC part number is 47-0619 for anyone that wants a visual.....i just dont know if i have the wrong part, or if i need to just modify what i have....

The dome light wiring changed throughout the years, so I am not sure what you have. But there are basically two types.

The first type only has one wire going to the switch. When this wire is grounded to the body, the domelight comes on.

The second type has two wires going to the switch. When these two wires are touched together, the domelight will come on.

Some trucks also have a third wire that goes to the switch. This is a whole seperate deal, and is for the alarm buzzer.

If I were to guess, I think you should have at least two, probably three wires at the switch. One should be lightgreen/yellow, and is the power wire from the fuse box. The second should be black/lightblue, and is the wire that goes to the domelight. You may have another wire over there that is red/pink. This is the wire for the warning circuit.
