Front Wheel Bearing replacement question
I'm replacing the front wheel bearings on my 72 F100 2wd and I have a question. Do I need to fill the inside of the hub with grease? There was some in there before I cleaned it but it wasn't even 1/4" of the way full. The Chilton's manual I have doesn't address it at all. Thanks.

I did more research after I looked here and found out that it is good to coat the inside of the hub to counteract any corrosion that might be caused by water getting in the hub. They also said that it can help catch debris from any wear or any dirt particles that may get in there. I know in the old days, my dad always used to fill the hub full but he figured it was just a waste of grease.

Yea that's what I noticed when I pulled them. I just knew that I'd seen most people refill the hubs and I just couldn't see a good reason for it. In the end, my research proved that it's just a waste to fill the hubs instead of coat the inside of them. I told my dad about it and he said he always thought the same thing but couldn't find anyone that could tell him any different.
