99 explorer running problem

my wife has a 99 explorer v6 sohv it has started to not run right. when you crank the key it starts goes to about 1500rpm then dies, only does this when its cold, problem started a few weeks ago first time it got around 50 degrees. if you gunned the engine up to around 4500rpm it would then hold any idle. it warmed up and we had no problems till today it was around 20 degrees and gunning it did not work. I was thinking maybe idel air controller, but not sure. dont want to spend unnecessary fund so close to christmas. any help would be cool...

Sure sounds like the IAC to me. You could try and clean it.

Intake O-rings... I'd bet on it... they swell up a little and seal up when they start to warm up.

When you replace them you'll notice the replacement are about twice as thick, and the old ones are hard and brittle.

Good luck
