rear shudder fixes
Have had my truck almost 2 yrs now and have 20k miles on it. I took it to the stealership last fall about the rear shudder issue at takeoff and also while coasting downhill on the interstate. They wouldn't do anything to it, said none of the 'fixes' were doing any good. So I took it to a different stealership this fall and they replaced the clutch packs and used the heavier oil in it as noted in the tsb. That did fix the shudder at takeoff issue, no problems with that.
But the other problem, getting the shudder while coasting downhill at around 75-80mph with your foot off the gas, still existed. So I took it to them for that the other day and the same guy worked on it, said he was not sure about what that problem might be, but he ended up replacing the driveshaft and used the shim kit for it too. I have not been on the interstate to test it out yet, but will be this weekend. It could be my imagination, but I'd swear that the truck feels a little better to me now when I give it some gas, like it is more responsive and torquey. Who knows. I'll repost again after I get it on the interstate and test it out to let you know if it fixed the remainder of the shudder problem. If so, maybe this will help some of you out.

Drove the truck this weekend on the interstate and the shudder seems to be fixed for the most part. I got it up to 80mph+ on a downhill and then let off the gas because that's when it would shudder so bad. It does not do that now, but it seems that I did feel just a slight bit of it around 85mph, but I'm not going to be driving that fast much ever so it doesn't matter. So after 2 different types of work done, the truck seems to be fixed:
apparent repair for rear end shudder at takeoff- clutch packs replacement + use new heavier weight fluid as noted in tsb
apparent repair for rear end shudder while driving- replace driveshaft and use shim kit
I think ford may have set the driveshaft at the wrong angle on the 04's-'05's, that's weird. I'm going to put the 3" skyjacker lift on mine, so I suppose it might rechange my driveshaft angle again.
