my late wifes '97 astro awd is driving me nuts. starts great for a week then acts like no gas and just will not start. can anyone give me a link to a place to buy a hand held code reader for this thing. i'm paying off medical bills(40K) so i've got little money. i know i should buy the service manual, but i'm trying to put my $$ to the bills. please help a broke guy.
thanks in advance.
when you get is started again, take it to autozone and get it scanned for free and post the results back here. i have a reader and i can decipher the codes if nothing else, and others on here know cheby's pretty well and would be more than willing to chime in and offer suggestions.
I have one for our 93 Bravada. said it will work on Saturn as well. If I thought it wold work in yours I wold gladly send it to you. But I am sure it wont. I want to help in any way I can and as a Professional mechanic I hope I can. The two things that come to mind that can cause your problem is the cold start sensor and the electronic control module on the dizzy. Look for a broken wire at the plug on the cold start sensor. Is this a 4cyl or V6 I can't remember.
the 6, once it starts there is all kind of throttle. my issue is i have to take the dog coop out to chk fuel pressure or get to the ignition parts. if i get it started i'll try the A.Z. test.
thanks kermit and arctic
If the cold start sensor goes bad it till tel the computer it is -60F. I will run rich. If tis is the case than unplug it. on Mamas Bavada it is on the front mounted to the water pump. Vary hard to get to. I use a long screw driver to pop it of. looks like a temp sending unit but has two wires. the replacement one at Nappa comes with replacement plug with wires.
