Just wanted to say hello as a new member here. Absolutely awesome site. Not sure if it is good, or bad that I've found this. I just pulled my '53 F100 out of storage to start working on. With all of the great ideas I've seen here, it is quite obvious that I could drop a fortune on this thing I got this truck as my first vehicle back when I was about 16. Did alot of work on it back then (went through 2 flatheads, a 292 and it ended up with what I think is a 352 in it). It has been out of commission for about the last 20 years. At 46 I'm glad to have my baby back in the garage, and plan to work on this project for the next couple of years. Fortunately the body is sound, some surface rust. I'm sure I'll be pinging this group often as the work progresses.
Welcome aboard John. This forum has helped me generate a lot of ideas for the 56 I am working on. My project for this weekend is to build a aluminum box to replace the cardboard glove box. I plan to have three gauges and a AM/FM/CD player contained in the glove box, so I don't have to cut more holes in the dash. When you get time, generate some
digital pictures of your truck and start a gallery linked to your name. I cruise the gallery pictures some times for ideas.
I know you are going to enjoy working on your truck again. As you probably already know it's going to be costly if you buy all new things which I found out the hard way. Most parts that companies sell you can get at the local salvage yard i.e disc brake kits, just pruchase the brackets and get the rest from the salvage yard. There are lots of options that will have your head spinning. I just figured what I wanted and stayed on that path.
I also have my am/fm/cd player in my glove box however, there is a draw back that is reaching it while driving. Fortunately I have a remote control for mine.
Good luck!!
Be sure and post some pictures of your truck in your gallery. Same goes for the rest of you guys. It's not that hard. Borrow a digital camera, gets some pictures scanned or send your film to an outfit that sends them back on a disc (like seattle film works). I'll look forward to seeing your project progress.
Dan
Welcome John, I have a 54 f100 that I've owned for almost 26 years now, and i'm still working on it because new ideas are coming out all the time, and I've found this site very helpful, if you need answers or trying to find a hard to find part. Good luck.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Mar-02 AT 09:13 PM (EST)]Welcome, I fully understand having projects in the wings for 20 years.
Right now I'm doing a '56 F100 street rod, the construction of which is being documented on my website (http://geocities.com/tkbowman). I just finished welding in a TCI crossmember for Mustang II front suspension. I've cut off the LF cab corner and am fabricating metal patch panels (very time consuming!) to connect up to the store bought ones that are available. While I'm at it, I'll replace the front floor section.
I've tacked in place the metal kit for my big back window and am planning to install a '56 passenger car dash.
There's more but I won't bore you. If you can make Pigeon Forge in May, you'll see a lot of inspiration and results of perspiration!
