My 2003 Ford Expedition seems to have a problem where it thinks there is an open door. The buzzer goes off ocassionally but the dispaly is always there. I assume this is some sort of sensor but don't know where to start looking. Any ideas ?
Wd-40 in the door latches fixed mine. don't forget the back gate that was the culprite.
So you are saying that there is a switch in the tail gate, and that was the problemin your situation? I just got my 97 F150, and the dealer replaced both of the door switches but the door ajar light is still on and the dome/cargo lights stay on for 20 minutes after you shut the doors.
The dome/cargo lights go off after about 20 seconds when driving.
I am at the end of my rope on this one, so I am willing to try anything.
WD- 40 on the latch. It's a pressure switch and if it needs lube it won't register properly. I couldn't tell you how many times and how hard I slammed until I got schooled on this forum
Yep, WD 40 on all the switches. The one that gave (and still does sometimes) me fits was the switch that is activated by the rear glass hatch. The switch is in there right along with the latch that secures the glass when it is closed. I constantly have to clean the dust and grit out of that one the most.
Even though the dealer replaced both of the front door switches I sprayed all of the latches with an electrical parts cleaner. This fixed the door ajar light just like that! After I got all the latches cleaned up good, I lubed them with some white lithium grease. I have found that this works better than WD40.
Only time will tell if this is a permanent fix, but for now all is good!
Yup. WD-40 will work on it. I had a problem with my lights staying on for about 40 minutes while I was out one night (until I started the car back up and went home). Next day, did a search on here and found WD-40 to work. Sure enough, it did the job. When I did mine, I took a small flathead screwdriver to, I guess, prop up (so the door would be "closed") the latches and spray the WD-40 in there. Worked as good as new.
I have this same problem with my 99 expy so this is nothing new to ford owners just a reoccurring thing that needs to be fixed by spraying some wd40 on it. thanks cause this has been driving me crzy trying to figure out which door is still open or if the window is up.
I have an 03 Exp with the same issue with the door ajar, but my battery keeps draining, and I am not sure whether its the doors, or something else. I have had the alternator replaced, put in 3 new batteries, and still nothing. Tonight I removed the door panels, and disconnected the sensors 1 at a time for the door ajar, and it stayed on. But I have not yet tried the rear glass. It seems from the other threads that itmay be the culpret. I hope so cause I am ready to burn this thing to the ground. I took it to an electrical shop and they did a draw test, it was pulling 6 amps. Any ideas?
I previously had the same problem with my '99 where the Door Ajar light came on occasionally and used to drive me crazy. I used to slam all of the doors shut incuding the rear until the light went off. It turns out that it that my problem was in the rear hatch where there are two switches, one in the rear hatch door and one for the window. Once I replaced both rear swithes, no more problem.
My '97 developed this exact problem yesterday. Can't tell ya how many times I opened and slammed the doors. Do you just spray the hinges or latches? I couldn't find the switches....thanks...
