1996 Ranger Engine light

I have 98k on my 1996 ranger and yesterday the engine light came on. However, it didn't stay on, it "flickers" in between shifting gears. Has anyone ever seen this before? Its a 5 speed 4 cyl motor.

What could it be reporting?

Nope, but sounds like it's not backing off the revs. Sticking throttle cable maybe? Stop by an Autozone for a free code scan.

Pull the codes, then let us know what was found... otherwise it's all speculation.

well today, the temp outside dropped by 30 degrees and the light isn't coming on. It was about 55 degrees and rain when it was flickering. now it's cold and dry outside. Thats the only diff.
