I use the same name on Ebay. There have been a couple of times I've bid against fellow FTE'ers. Lately it has been the same guy on the same part (speaker grille). His truck is more complete than mine so I emailed him and told him to go for it. The part comes up quite a bit and he will only go so high on it. He told me if I wanted to, to go ahead and outbit him. My limit is about the same as his though so it might awhile before either of us actually buys one of these.

I usually don't bid until the very end also

Good luck to you all
Bobby

I have seen the Bidder1, Bidder2, etc. thing and am not thrilled about it either.

For the most part, I bid at the last moment as well; one bid with my maximum. Then let the chips fall. I see no reason to run up a price over three or four days. Mostly what I look for is parts that I know I will need in the future and can get now while I don't need them for a cheap price, especially if I am the only bidder. Otherwise, when the time comes, I know everyone else will be needing them at the same time as well.

I have seen quite a few of your names though as I run through my searches.

I also use that same name as here...Greatnorthwoods. Bobby and I have been trying to buy one of those 48-50 chrome speaker grills for some time. We're both tightwads so it doesn't look like either of us will ever get one. I use no type of snipe program and just put in the highest bid I'm willing to go at the outset and if I'm outbid so be it.

Vern,

I think we're out of luck. The last two that have been listed have started at $18

Someday

On EBay I'm 55FORDTOWN. I would probably let a fellow FTE member win the bid if he needed it more than me. I hate to see the prices run up. I remember a few years ago, somebody on the site took pity on me and let me have the bid without running it up. So, I pay it forward and if anybody asks, I'll prob back off. Jag

I use Athensmod. I buy and sell a fair amount of mid-century modern furniture and such.

That's the whole issue, tho. How do you determine who "really" needs it? I guess if one guy was just looking for a spare, that's one thing, but otherwise it's purely a matter of opinion. I've seen guys pick up stuff and try to sell it in the classifieds section of the forum (not this one) for 2X a week later! Is that a "need" or ???

Personally, I'm burned out on ebay. I watch items of interest, but if its a decent item or a rare item, everybody and their mother bids on it and it goes for higher than normal prices. Ebay is good for sellers now, but not for buyers. The shipping is a joke also. If the price is decent, the shipping cost is triple. I get my deals at automotive swap meets now. That way I don't have to wait 3 weeks to get my item in the mail either.

The way it worked for me was that I merely asked if the other FTE member would let me have the item. It was done as a favor. He said no prob. I have even had several members on this site just send me items with no fee once they found out I was looking for them. Mike, George and Daryl come to mind. (Sorry if I forgot somebody) So I pay it forward.

Just by asking, I would not be surprised if a fellow member would back off of the auction.

Just an odd note: I've had several things over the years that I was giving away for free. No one wanted them. Then, when I put $50 on the item, people snatched them up. Jag

Jag, that's how we get rid of dogs around here. "Mutts, $25 each, make good hunting dogs". Be surprised how fast people jump at them.

A good friend of mine was remodelig a bathroom not too long ago at about this time of year. He had 4 boxes of old tiles, he wrapped the boxes up in Christmas paper and left them in the open trunk of his car for the afternoon....

........sure enough it only took a couple of hours for someone to steel them

mwah hah hahaha!!!!
