Can anyone please tell me what truck I have with this VIN#?? It reads as follows: F10V5014610
This is for a 55 Ford Pick-Up. I am trying to see what I have so I can also determine engine. It has a Y Block, (I think), with a 4bbl in it now. Dipstick in front of block by water pump on passengers side, has plugs well below the exhaust manifolds which kinda go up like ram horns and connect in the front to the tailpipe, distributor in rear, tilted toward passenger side of truck.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi, this is my first post. AZ DMV will not accept the vin on the plate on glove box. Truck is completely original farm truck, I've had it 7 yrs, previously in WA. can't find vin on right front frame rail, any other ideas? I washed off 50 years of grime, most of it anyway, but no luck. As an intro, I am in the ATHS and VP of local chapter, with a 61 B model Mack too.
Thanks for the welcome. Bought a wire brush, new flashlight batteries and tomorrow I attack the front right top frame rail. I'll panic later if it is not there. Had issues when I registered the Mack truck, vin number was hard to find, but the right guy found it
Here is the breakdown of the VIN that I know of by seeing it: F10V5014610
F10 - F100
V - 223
5 - 1955
O - The plant but I don't know that one...somebody else might know???
14610 - Production Sequence Number

55 Ford 223/3spd (For Sale)
54 Ford 302/AOD Soon :-)
I thought V was for the 272 Y block (4 bar.) & D was for the 223 which was a staight 6, at least that is what my number list shows. Mine reads F10D6H#####
F10-F100
D-223
6-1956
H-Detroit
#####-Personal ID from that plant

Kyle, that's correct for '56 but not '55.
Actually code V for '55 is for the 239 OHV (according to my book) which is the first of the Y blocks. D is the 223 six.
Lastcast, any chance that 'O' ofter the 5 is a 'C' instead?
Different plants stamped the id# in different places, you may find it anywhere on the frame rails in front of the firewall or even on the front crossmember. It may be stamped fairly shallow, so look carefully. If you have wire brushed rust but haven't gotten completely down to bare metal, wiping the surface with a rag dampened in mineral spirits (paint thinner) and shining a strong light parallel to the surface may help bring it out. Also lightly hand block sanding the surface with a fine grit paper (~200) may make it stand out.
Thanks, found it right frame by the firewall- what a relief- I have several old vehicles some I bought 20 years ago and I was not always diligent about checking vins. AZ has been the first state to make me show them the vin. If I can figure out how I'll post a picture of the 55 Ford
had trouble finding my serial number as well on my 54 . it was under the radiator passanger side on the crossmember not the frame rail . might check there if you don't find it on the rail.
