I know this may be stupid but it's night time and I can't find the pcv valve on my wife's explorer. I'm sure I've changed it before but for some reason I just can't find it to put in some seafoam.
Found it. Got it done. Wasn't easy. No thanks to anyone on here.
hey rusty ...give us guys a chance to get home from work and eat dinner...glad you found it.... I have a 2001 4.0 and want to change my pvc... where is it?
and what were you planning on doing with the seam foam and how....
It wasn't the easiest thing to find, or to work on. If you get out the socket wrench and take off the plastic shroud on top of the engine you will find it tucked away in the very back of the engine compartment towards the middle closer to the passenger side.
The Seafoam (if you can find it), was something recommended to me for my '98 expedition on these forums. I was quite impressed with the results on my truck so I decided to put it in the explorer too. Both of our vehicles now drive like they were new.
As per the manufacturers directions on their website, I put 1/3 to 1/2 the bottle down the hole for the pcv valve, with the engine running and warm (I make sure to replace the valve while I'm in there). Now shut the engine off and reconnect the valve. Then I put 1/2 of what's left down the crankcase, and the rest in my fuel tank. Now wait at least two to three hours and turn the vehicle back on and let it warm up. You are going to see thick smoke out your tailpipe and notice a very strong smell as the Seafoam burns all the crap out of your engine. I usually go for a short drive to make sure it runs hot and also to enjoy the immediate benefits.
Best $12.50 I've ever spent. Try it for yourself and enjoy.
