I am struggling at the moment. The weather as been bad (cold and Wet) the last few weekends here and I have just not been able to face any serious work on the truck.
The last few jobs I have done I have had to either do again or I am still not happy with them, and I feel like i am going backwards.
I really need some inspiration. So any of you guys out there with some beautiful trucks out there post some pictures to give me that boost I need to get out there and work through this.
I don't quite fit the catagory as my truck would never be able to be classified as beautiful. I do know how you are feeling though. My advice is to not worry about it. This is supposed to be a hobby, something you do in your spare time to relax. If its getting to the point that its frustrating then maybe you should step back and do something else for a bit.
We all fall into these ruts, more so when the weather is cold and miserable. Having to redo your own work to fix your own mistake is a real bummer, especially when its ugly outside.
Its close to the holidays anyway. Put the truck on ice for a few weeks, it will be there waiting for you when you get back to it.
I have lost count of all the old car/truck projects I have started and lost interest in due to lack of funds mostly. I decided on a plan to to get m 51F1 on the road in a 12 month period and made it.
Thanks Bobby,
I know you are right, it just pains me that I am also paying to keep the truck in a garage as it will not fit at my house. So the longer it takes me to build it the more it costs me, even if it just sits there. I will take a while off from it and hopefully the break will do me good.
51ford fan,
was that a full rebuild? If so hat was a real feat. I have been working on my truck for about 16 months now, and have not yet started putting it back together.
I forgot that you were under a bit of a time constraint due to the storage thing, that just adds one more straw to the camels back. I know how it is when you are paying for storage, it nags at you to get to work on it or you feel guilty about it.
I'm lucky, I have a 2 car garage on my house where I do my work. It sure makes life easy.
Try this then, slow your pace down a bit. Break whatever section you are currently working on down into smaller pieces and tackle one at a time....slow and steady.
Before you know it the sun will come out again, days will start getting longer and we'll all wonder "How did all that time slide by without us realizingit?"
Now, get your butt in gear, get back out to the shop and make it happen!
Boy I can really relate to this thread. The weather here has been sort of cold and wet, the funds for working on the truck have dried up , work has been demanding more time than I would like. I was hoping to at least have my truck driveable by spring, but at this rate it'll be spring '08 or later.
What Bobby said is good advice, break it down into small goals and you will feel better about what you accomplish and if you need to do something over it will only be a small item. Sometimes I will move to another part of the truck if I find I am getting stalled out or overwhelmed. I seem to get more antsy the closer I get to having one on the street again. I have to really talk myself into slowing down and doing it right. Taking a break sometimes is best.
mechmagcn and I are in the same boat. (note to self: start paddling)
almost 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hrs. (atleast it ain't snow) and what it has done to my foundation is unspeakable.(concrete was to pour on Thursday) and now it's forecasted to be a high of low teens for the next 8 days. Lwlandy, cheer up. See, it could be worse.
I made my starting point the frame cleaning and painting, it seemed to make the truck look so much better when it was done. It's 90% labor and about $30.00 in paint.
I hear ha loud and clear. If i didn't spend 90% of my time fixin things i mess up i could make some headway to. Keep your chin up summer is only 5 monthssss away. Hopefully. RUSTY
I have felt this way lately. A lot of it is other real life needs that have to come first for the family and now the holidays are here. I am busy cleaning the house as my parents will be visiting in 10 days.
While these next 10 days will be long with no truck work, I believe I am getting a few BIG hand-me downs from dad as he upgrades his toybox. Dad is retired and he upgrades his woodworking shop every few years.
I think we are all in the same boat. Since my health has gone south, I have not touched the truck (may?). Other things have taken priority. In my case, she is sitting there on dads gravel driveway waiting for me to get better and get some of these medical bills paid off. Someday...maybe...
Hang in there, I hear you as I been there and done it. I`ve put off too many great projects becuase I stalled and ended up selling at a loss only to go back to another one. I`ve learned my lesson, do a little at a time but keep working on it and never give up.
Hey, you`re one of us, we all have these moments, days or weeks, don`t give up and you will get it done. Just look ahead to when you can take it out on the road again.
I have no plans to give up, I just wish the summer lasted more than a few months over here. I think I must be suffering from SAD (Seasonal affective Dissorder). I seem to get up and it is dark outside and Raining, then when I finish work it is the same.
Roll on spring/summer 07.
Bobby's advice is as always good, one thing I am going to do to try and help is bring some of the truck home so that I can work on it at the house. Although this means I will need to clear a lot of the rubbish out of my garage so that I can actually get in it. But I guess that will be a good thing.

well said by all in this thread,i get the same way,if your mom bake's a pie and you eat it all at once ,it will make you sick.on the other hand,if you eat it 1 slice at a time ,you will enjoy it. just like doing your truck.1 item at a time.if it is paid for ,they don't eat hay and cost nothing to let sit till you get time to work on them.so don't feel you are alone on this. tracy
