I own a nice 55 i bought a couple of years ago... am interested in getting it on the street... i see the serial # on the plate on the glove box door.. but only held with little screws..could be change very easy if you were trying to pull something on someone... is there a number on the frame or somewhere else??? did any 55's come with the chevrons on the front grill or just the 54's???? wonder if mine has a 54 grill or in fact is a 54???? F10V5K20020 IS the number on the plate and title...and is there anywhere i can print or download a wiring diagram for a 55 without having to buy a whole manual???? THANKS... mike@nmcg.net if you can help....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Apr-02 AT 10:46 PM (EST)]The serial number, or VIN, should be on the tag in the glove box (as you found) and also stamped on the top of the right side frame rail between the front of the cab and the front axle. It's not always easy to get to and you may need to rub the area with some oil or water to be able to see the stamping. The frame rail number is more likely to be the original if the two places differ but you never know, somebody may have swapped the body to a different frame.

BTW, if you are interested in decoding your VIN the info for the 1953 through 1956 years is in a post titled "1956 ford truck" that's just a few days old on the board.
