new carb problems!!! help!!!
i got a brand new holley 390, put it on, tried adjusting the float level and fuel mixture as best i could, but it backfires through the carb at any rpm higher than about 1500. it backfires real bad (and fast) when driven, hopefully i havn't broken anything yet.
what causes it to backfire? it idles nicely for the most part, just the stupid backfire.

Assuming you don't have ignition issues, and didn't change anything in the ignition, backfiring back through the intake is a sign of an extremely lean mixture. Try and richen it out and see if that helps. (raise the float level and/or back out the mixture screws another 1/4-1/2 turn).
