since your going to spend money on a chip intake and exhaust which will be near 1k bucks or more and net maybe 20 hp....why didnt you just get the 600 dollar v10 option with 62 more hp and 100 ft lbs more torque???

not everyone was or is as educated about the v10...take me for instance i dont even need a 3/4 ton truck but i got it and i bought it before knowing about this sight...the truck is more then enough power size speed and whatever else you can think of ...for me.... but i wont lie if i could do it over i would have gotten the v10...600 bucks is cheap for the extra power gains with minimal if no mpg loss...i just calculated by hand my mpg and i got 13.1 mpg city...my dad drives the same route in his 350 dually cc v10 and he got 11.2...hes much heavier but still the loss of mpg would be minimal in the same size truck as mine....what im trying to say is some people just dont want the v10 either because they are lead to believe it is a gas hog and also they are a rare thing around here...in the 2005-2007 body styles i have seen only one that had a v10 all other where diesel or v8's...if everyone who had a v8 was more educated on the v10 im sure they would also try to get a v10...just my .02
not on a superduty im assuming? gotta be an f150. i will be salty!
You cant be salty to me brother i know what my truck can do. Your assuming wrong, its in fact a SD. How do you figure that you cant get no milage out of a SD? Just an intake swap can make a !/2 a mile differnce. What is with you guys thats hung up on that a ford cant get over 14mpg? The 5.4L for its displace is a pretty dang good motor. I've had 4 and have been well served.
Save your money. I did headers. Little to no effect. I have a Gibson cat-back exhaust, but I could've saved some $$$ and just replaced to muffler because all it does is sound a little nicer.
There's just not a lot we can do performance-wise for the 5.4's. You could easily spend $1,000 and see little IF ANY gains. I actually feel like the truck runs better with the stock exhaust. It must need the back-pressure ?

im not salty to you guy..im just saying ive gotta 04 superduty with the 5.4 cc fx4 3.73's and im getting 10-12 around town..havent really calculated the highway mileage yet just got it about 2 months ago.some people tell you intakes use more gas some tell you opposite...ill just stick with my stocker because i am not trying to make a race machine here.. props to you my brother!
i have a 06 f250 3.73 supercab 8ft bed and tried my hardest to get 14 and just couldnt do it...13.4 was my best and i too havenet got time yet to get on the highweay and burn some fuel and see my highway driving...

Its an 02 cc 4x4 fx4 swb. Like I said that 16 mpg was highway. I did'nt say it was all the time. Like you said you made 14.91mpg once. See thats my point it can be done. If your getting 13mpg no matter what you got to be getting alittle better here and there to offset the loss fuel on the times when it really burns it. I see my gains and i figure my own cause that computer is the biggest liar i've seen. well i mean on all fords i've owned. For example last week end i pumped 10gal of gas i was on E and the computer said i was getting 17 mpg but switching over the miles to E said i only had 125. It did'nt take more than a second to figure that one out. after running that 10 gals out i figured it up and i got 13.3. That was all in town and my left foot was alittle heavy.
Well Suzuki, you can't judge all other trucks based on yours. I've gotten nearly 17 mpg once. But I average 15.5 to 16 on a regular basis. When I hook up my camper, it's a different story. But to say all SD's will never get better than 14 is just not right. Different driving habits alone will give different results. But the main thing to remember is, if you're too worried about gas mileage, you shouldn't be in a F-250 anyway.

My truck is a 2000 f250 5.4 4x4 sc sb 373 gear and auto transmision.First off I added a k & n replacement filter, and noticed no difference in performance, next added a Flowmaster cat back system and you could feel the difference, seemed to rev quicker.
My mileage empty driving on the hwy is between 16 and 20 mpg, most often its 17 to 18 mpg ( imperial gallons ) 20% larger than a us gallon.City driving isnt great, about 12 mpg.Tires are bfg all terrains 265 75 16.
Towing a 5 k boat, 185 miles return trip it gets on average 11.5 mpg, any wind at all, overdrive can not be used....must leave it in 3 rd gear and it pulls well.
The last mod I did was change the 373 for 430 gears and a superchips tunner.First trip towing I got 12.3 mpg with my 5 k boat.Truck performs a lot better now, the same hill with 373 gears I was down to 2 nd gear and 3700 rpm about 55 mph, now I can climb the same hill in 3 rd gear and 2800 rpm, doing 55 mph. Also note I am running 91 octane fuel.Should note I haven't checked the hwy mileage with the 430 gears yet empty.
My buddy has a 2003 f350 sd v10 sc lb 4x4 430 gears and auto transmission, he gets 12 mpg towing the same load and way more torque. My next sd will be a v10.
This past fall, we went on a hunting trip, with two sd trucks, mine the gasser and my other buddy with a 2004 diesel. Both trucks had a boat in tow about 1000 lbs, plus gear.We hand calculated the gas mileage for both trucks the diesel got 17.5 mpg and the 5.4 with mods got 14.3.... both trucks had a cab hight canopy.
He he he... My 06 F250 diesel gets 14 driving around town in 4x4 high(lots of snow and ice)! I bet with a chip an intake and an exhaust I could get a 100 more ponies or more. I got 18 0n a long trip... PSD rules! I'll stay stock but the diesel performance horizon is wider than the gasser.
