Along with my cam trouble I have been unable to find Headbolts for the 223 in my 58! I broke one off during torqing and no one seems to have them. LMC, Hemmings,NAPA, autozone,Kragen,Carquest have not ben able to help me out PLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL If anyone knws where I can find some please let me know. thanks
First, you should be able to go to your local boneyard and pull a head bolt off one of theirs.
Second, and probably easier and cheaper, you can go online to www.mcmaster.com and order all new bolts in the exact size and type you need for your head. For example, here's a listing for a standard hex bolt that matches the head bolts for one of my other engines:
Part Number 92316A638
Package of 10: $4.29
System of Measurement: Inch
Screw Type: Standard
Length: 3"
Thread Size: 3/8"-16
Head Style: Flange
Thread: Standard Threaded
Drive: Hex
Material: Grade 8 Black Finish Steel
Just measure what ya got and you can get look up and order new ones for peanuts. Make sure you get the right bolt head type (plain, flanged, etc). They have pictures of everything so it's really easy to match them up. You will also want to make sure you get the grade 8 bolts since head bolts need the extra strength.
