hey all, im having some electrical problems. a while ago my brother shot some WD-40 on the highbeam switch, and i think that really screwed the electronics up. Now the indicators are intermittant. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont, but whether they do or dont, they stay that way for the duration of the time that the truck is on. For example, if i start the truck and they decide not to work, they wont work at all for the entire trip. but if i get out and come back and start it up, and they decide to work, they work for the entire trip home. The high beam switch doesnt do anything, but the highbeam light in the dash is always on, although i have noticed that when i clutch in, the highbeam light on the dash goes out, everytime. Additionally, the headlights themselves blink sometimes. Pretty rapidly.
I posted a thread about this a while ago, and was told to try and clean the battery terminals and the cable ends, which i did with coca cola, and then applied dielectric grease to the tops once i bolted them back down.
Whats goin on?
also, as a side note, would it be worth it to get this "heavy duty headlight harness" from lmctruck.com or anything similar?
1) Cluth Pedal Issue: Check to see if a wire has fell or moved to a place where it is interfering with your clutch pedal mechanism. It could be that you have interference causing a loose connection at the Fuse Panel or another connector when the pedal is pushed in.
2) The other problem: High Beam either working or not working....hummm....don't have a clue there. Should be fairly easy to remove and clean or replace that switch all together though.
would it be possible to move the headlight switch somewhere else? i dont really like it being on the floor. How hard would it be to have it on the staulk that controls the indicators?

Anything electrical is possible. After all a switch just provides a way of completing a circuit. It would take some thought about the design and it may look a bit like a clooge if not carefully done with esthetics in mind.
You could also go for a later model steering column swap (this would get very complicated as far as getting the wire harness patched properly). It may also not mate with your stearing box. I don't recommend that approach.

Did you check out the pedal clearence. I mentioned that wires may be dangling down and interfering with pedal operation and breaking the circuit?
yeah i will, i ahvent had a chance to yet. im in college right now and dont drive the truck during the week. the only chance i get to is when im home (where all my tools are) and that probably wont be happening for a couple of weeks now anyway. just wanted to get a push in the right direction.
Well didn't know your personal situation- glad to try and help. I'm old enough to be your Grandfather, so I'm cool with waiting however long. I hope I have helped in some way.
Do well in school!
